Voiceover & podcast

Advertising, e-learning, documentary, audiobook or podcast: a clear voice, a silent background and files that meet the brief.

Two people record a podcast around a round table with microphones

Overview

Voiceover, audiobook and podcast in Lyon

Spoken voice is unforgiving. The slightest background noise, room reverb or harsh sibilance quickly becomes distracting, especially on headphones. Our very dry, quiet booth is built for this work, whether for a thirty-second spot or an audiobook lasting several hours.

We welcome actors, trainers, companies recording their own content, authors reading their own books, and podcast teams. The client or director can follow the session from the control room, or remotely via an audio link we set up on request.

For podcasts, the control room and live room can seat two to four speakers around a round table, each with their own microphone and headphones.

How it works

Step by step

  1. Brief

You send the script, the expected format (length, level standards, file format) and any references.

  2. Session

Recording in the booth, directed by you or by our engineer, with safety takes on tricky passages.

  3. Editing

Choosing the best takes, removing mouth noises and breaths, meeting the timing.

  4. Export

Files delivered in the requested format and level, named according to your convention.

Advertising and corporate voiceover

For an ad or a corporate video, timing is often fixed to the second. We record several readings (warmer, more energetic, calmer) to give you a choice in the edit. Files are delivered raw and processed, so your editor can rework them if needed.

If you need a voice actor, we can put you in touch with professional voices in the region. Their fee and the terms of use of their voice are agreed directly with them or stated in the quote.

Audiobooks

Audiobooks demand consistency: same mic distance, same tone, same level over hours of reading spread across several sessions. We log every setting so we can recreate exactly the same sound from one session to the next, and we follow the text in the control room to catch reading errors.

We deliver chapters to the specifications of audiobook distribution platforms (level, noise floor, silence at the start and end of each file, format). Tell us the target platform when you request a quote.

Podcasts

For a podcast, the challenge is to sound natural while staying intelligible. We use dynamic broadcast microphones, which pick up little of the room and neighbouring voices, and we set each headphone feed so everyone hears themselves well. We can record a one-hour episode, edit it and export it the next day.

Editing includes removing the most distracting hesitations, levelling speakers, adding your intro and outro if you supply them, and exporting as MP3 and WAV. We do not publish your episodes: you stay in control of your feed and your podcast host.

Remote guests

If a guest cannot come, we can bring them in over an audio link. Quality then depends on their equipment and connection; we send them a few simple tips in advance (headphones, quiet room, mic close by) and, where possible, record their track locally on their side to sync it afterwards.

Recording a podcast with several voices

For a podcast with two, three or four voices, each speaker has their own dynamic microphone, headphones and individual level setting. We place guests face to face, far enough apart to limit bleed from one microphone to another. You keep a separate track per person, which makes editing simpler: cut a cough, lower a laugh that is too loud or fix an answer without touching the other voices.

We can record a remote guest at the same time, provided they have a stable connection and headphones. Their voice quality will then depend on their microphone and room; we advise them beforehand to get the best possible result.

Preparing your script

Send the script in advance as an editable document, with the pronunciation of proper names, brand names and acronyms spelled out. Mark the intended tone (warm, neutral, energetic) and, for video, the target duration of each passage. For a podcast, a simple running order with approximate timings is enough. This preparation lets the voice focus on delivery rather than on reading, and usually shortens the session.

Deliverables and broadcast standards

Depending on your outlet, we deliver WAV files for editing, MP3 files ready to publish and versions that follow the level recommendations of podcast platforms or broadcast. For commercial or corporate voiceover, we deliver each line separately if the video editor wishes, with file names that follow the script numbering.
